Dr Mechler has received his PhD at the University of Szeged, Hungary,in 2001, in physics/materials science. His work involved high resolution atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy characterization of laser irradiated carbon surfaces. He spent three years with postdoctoral work at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was involved in several diverse projects including nano-viscosimetry, conductive polymers and transmembrane ionchannel activity. In 2004 he moved to Australia; after a five year fellowship at Monash University in 2009 he became faculty member at La Trobe University. Dr Mechler's primary research interest is the formation of complex nanostructures via intermolecular interactions, with three main focus areas: phospholipid membranes, membrane disrupting antimicrobial peptides, and peptide-based supramolecular frameworks.Back
